Artisanal fishers comprehend a group with similar features, including a tight interaction with natural resources and high economic importance. In Brazil, artisanal fishing is responsible for about half of the total fish production. There is, however, a huge necessity of studies and practices on ecology and ethnobiology of artisanal fishing, in order to be possible to manage fish species, and to guarantee the food diversity and security.
